Easy Ways to Protect Your Car’s New Paint Job

Sunshine Collision Center • 19 January 2023

If you love your reliable old car, but it has lost some of its shine, then getting it a new paint job is a great way to rejuvenate it. However, if you’re not careful, your new paint job could soon become sullied. But by taking some simple precautions, you can help to keep your new paint job looking beautiful for thousands of miles to come. At Sunshine Collision Center, our local body shop provides top-quality auto painting in the greater Boca Raton, FL area. Here are four quick tips for protecting your car’s new paint job.

Wash Every Other Week

It’s a good idea to wash your vehicle every other week so that any debris that has gathered on its surface won't harm the paint job. In particular, you’ll want to promptly wash off bird droppings, which are highly acidic and don’t take long to damage the paint.

Wax Regularly

You’ll want to wax your car at least every three months. This will add a layer of protection against things that could potentially tarnish your paint job, such as salt, bird droppings, tree sap, dust, and bugs.

Careful when Parking at Stores

When running to get groceries, you might be excited to see a parking spot available right near the front of the store. However, such spots regularly require you to squeeze in tightly between two other vehicles. Then, there’s a greater risk of someone mindlessly opening their door right into the side of your car and your paint job could suffer substantial damage. Oftentimes, there’s more empty space toward the back of the lot where the risk of such damage is lower. Also, it’s best to avoid parking under trees or power lines where a bunch of birds are hanging out.

Use the Garage

UV rays can cause car paint to fade. So it’s a good idea to park in your garage, which will also keep your paint job protected from bird droppings, tree sap, and neighborhood vandals.
